I love being back in my home country and I am grateful every day as I breathe in the beauty of my surroundings here in Wilderness. 6 weeks have already whizzed by and still the mountains awe me, the sound of the sea energizes me and daily my heart is warmed by the amusing and descriptive mélange of English/Afrikaans so typical of this area. Add into the mix the precious memories of friends and family now long gone and you understand how this place, these people, are the foundation of who and what I am.
Right now I am sitting on the top of a mountain, at a scenic place called "Map pf Africa" waiting for a friend who has always wanted to fly and now gets to do a tandem paragliding adventure with one of the finest paraglider pilots in SA. I know she will remember this for a very long time, having felt the freedom of flight, something the vast majority of us will only experience in our dreams.
So our lives are colored in, a blank canvas to start with but over a lifetime revealing a sort of paint-by-number artwork in the making, each little segment a unique and valuable component of the eventual outcome.
"God has made everything beautiful for its own time. He has planted eternity in the human heart, but even so, people cannot see the whole scope of God’s work from beginning to end." Eccl.3:11
And as Paul said:
"There has never been the slightest doubt in my mind that the God who started this great work in you would keep at it and bring it to a flourishing finish on the very day Christ Jesus appears." Phill. 1:6
